July 16, 2004 -- Today, consumers can choose between dozens of greeting card merchants when they want to send a kiss or a smile. But what choices do consumers have when they want to send a jab, a poke in the ribs, or a full left-hook? A new player in the greeting card market has finally filled this gap: eMeanie.com. (http://www.emeanie.com).

Most cards today are happy-go-lucky cartoons that pleasantly pat the recipient on the head. eMeanie is more like knocking the recipient around and maybe adding a little whoop, whoop, whoop ala the Three Stooges. These cards are perfect for teasing a co-worker, making fun of an older sibling, or zinging an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend.

True to form, the owners of eMeanie.com often send eMeanies to each other. “It’s great to give Scott or Mark a poke in the ribs”, says co-owner Haleh Shahrzad, “it keeps everything light and upbeat.” The other co-owners of eMeanie.com are Scott Demers, and Mark Hafley.

eMeanie brilliantly walks the line between mean and witty. Anyone with a good sense of humor should get a chuckle from eMeanie’s line of cards and merchandise. The website is animated by five lovable yet ornery characters like ‘Bobber’ the shark or ‘Spank’ the monkey. The characters bonk and clobber each other to drive home the point of each card. eMeanie offers 11 categories of cards with everything from 'Love Gone Wrong' to 'Birthday Blasts'.

eMeanie electronic greeting cards are free to send via email. Cards can also be customized with a few lines of text. Electronic cards are available for viewing by the recipient for 30 days. Paper cards are available for $2.99 plus shipping. eMeanie merchandise features the lovable eMeanie characters with more witty quips on t-shirts and mugs. Merchandise prices range from $13.99-$16.99.

eMeanie.com is debuting with over 100 different cards that ZING. However, don't expect it to stop there. “We expect to add new cards and new animations frequently to keep customers coming back”, says Scott DeMers. eMeanie animators and writers are constantly working on new cards and looking for new ideas.

"We've had some laughs developing this concept," said Hafley. "We believe that fun is the key to eMeanie’s success. We are focused on providing a great product while keeping the laughs coming."
